He Takes Good Care of You and Me
He takes good care of you and me
In 2022, I had the wonderful opportunity to take my grandchildren to a delightful farm, a place alive with laughter and joy. The moment we arrived, the sheer delight on their faces warmed my heart; it was as if the farm’s magic enveloped them in a warm embrace. As they eagerly fed the animals, their infectious giggles filled the air. Food occasionally fell to the ground, where each morsel was met with the eager anticipation of the animals around them. I watched them giggle as goats nibbled crumbs from their tiny hands and chickens flocked around, clucking excitedly for a treat.
Suddenly, a little sparrow flitted by and landed delicately among the scattered scraps. Watching it peck at the food was a gentle reminder of God’s magnificent care for all creatures, big and small. Even though the sparrow was alone, with no one to feed it or its nestlings, it comforted me to think that God intimately knew this little creature’s needs.
Fast forward four years, and during a worship service, Cory Asbury’s song “Sparrows” began to play. It brought back a wave of nostalgia, instantly transporting me to when the song became my lifeline during one of the darkest seasons of my life. It resonated deeply, soothing my troubled heart and reminding me of the peace found only in God’s presence, even amid life’s turmoil.
The song’s essence is striking, addressing the fears and worries that often plague us. Cory Asbury beautifully expresses these truths in his lyrics: “The sparrow’s not worried about tomorrow or the troubles to come. The lily’s not thinking about the seasons; the drought or the flood. A tree planted by the water isn’t fazed by the fire. A heart that’s planted in forgiveness doesn’t dwell in the past. So why should I be?” Each line reflects the core truth of trusting in God, reminding us of His unwavering love and meticulous care for us.
In Luke 12:6-7, Jesus reassures us of our immense worth to our Heavenly Father: “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.” This scripture often comes to mind as I wonder why I let concerns about tomorrow or fear of the future consume me, especially when God’s love for me surpasses that of the lilies and trees—the very essence of nature.
Reflecting on my life, I realize how often I linger in the shadows of my past, even though I’ve been forgiven and set free. I think of my mother, who has faced significant health challenges and has been hospitalized twice. During those sleepless nights, I often lie awake, consumed by prayers mixed with worry for her well-being and what the future may hold. It’s a common struggle we all face—balancing faith with life’s nagging uncertainties.
The past should not weigh us down but serve as a gentle reminder of who we were, a testament to who we have become through His incredible grace. The song “Sparrows,” which once carried me through dark days, feels like a whisper from God, nudging me to let go of my anxieties—about the future, my family, and friends. Just as He tenderly cares for the sparrows and the lilies of the valley, He watches over us with the same loving attention.
If the Lord took such meticulous care of me and guided me through life’s storms, why should I let worry cloud my view of tomorrow when He is already there, extending His hands of grace and protection?
May you find encouragement in the truth that we are worth more than sparrows or the beautiful lilies flourishing in the fields. He holds us close in His heart and cradles us in His hands, reminding us that we are never alone in our struggles.
Beloved, today, be uplifted by the fact that Jesus carries us through every storm. When the waters feel too deep, He is there to support us, just as He held Peter during the tempestuous seas. If He could do that for Peter and many of His disciples, then surely, He will do it for you and me. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain when we trust Him, the author of our faith.
Trusting in Jesus during life’s storms is like navigating a ship through turbulent waters. Just as a skilled captain uses his knowledge and experience to guide the vessel safely to shore, Jesus uses His divine wisdom and strength to steer us through our challenges. The waves may crash around us, but with Him at the helm, we can find calm and reassurance, knowing we will reach a safe harbor.
So how about you, dear friends? How do you tackle worries and challenging seasons in your life? Do you find yourself consumed by anxiety, or do you have a special spot at home where you bring your concerns to the Lord? Would you respond like the sparrows or lilies of the field, trusting in His provision? I admit that worry still creeps into my heart at times, but in those moments, I return to Jesus, who consistently reassures me with the words, “Do not be afraid.”
